Having seen the lovely xmas card Weirdchild has been making I found myself a little confused as I am sure that the Challenge was to be using something new…. However the challenge is only a guideline anyway so who cares?!
Every month I do my best to set myself a specific Crafty allowance ( I am sure many others do too) and so I am ashamed to say that I blew the whole of August’s allowance in one blow 😦
Some of you will have seen the new Crafters Companion Christmas Stamps that launched a couple of weeks ago which I had been merrily ignoring; unfortunately I was then lured into purchase by a really good deal (with a set of sparkle pens) and an additional discount available on the site through other means. I have been drooling a little over the sparkle pen sets for a while so I finally succumbed.
I have done two cards so far and a possibility.
The First I did was a craft along whilst watching Hochanda on rewind
This is the first time I used the glycerin-with- spectrum-aqua technique and was happy with the result. The rest of the colouring is also spectrum aqua and I have used pebeo’s liquid foil relief paste to ‘flick’ (as you would water) to make the foil droplets which I think is really pretty; I shall definitely be using the technique again!
This Second one was also coloured with spectrum aquas but was essentially just colour and stick; I have also added liquid pearls for a bit of dimension
This last one isn’t finished because I cannot decide whether or not my Tatty Ted colours match the background. They were created separately so the colours were not done to match to start with, but I can’t quite make up my mind…
This little item is not an entry for our challenge however it was my birthday a few days ago and I was lucky enough to receive quite a lot of crafty goodies 🙂
This is the first item I have made with the new stuff…
I was shocked whilst colouring this to find that my spectrum sparkle pen had run out of juice (aaargh!) but all is well because it was a pack of three 😉
Well I am not completely sure what number weirdchild got up ton in her mega-man mission, but she has been doing extremely well and has definitely won the challenge again this month!
April is not quite over, so I am adding in the couple of cards I have managed to make that are more male orientated 🙂
This one is really simple, the stamp is (shockingly) by Sheena and coloured with Spectrum Aqua pens. The Mat for the card should have been brown, however my printer appears to have decided that it doesn’t want to use the black cartridge anymore, resulting in a mixture of oranges and reds printing out on my last run… The Stamp and Sentiments mats are kraft card and I have used Soot black and pumice stone distress inks.
This one was not quite so simple, but still really easy; I have die cut a 7×7 card blank to a circular shape – if you want to do this, then with the card folded, run it through your die-cutting machine making sure that your die overhangs the folded edge.
I have then used Create and Crafts’ Topsy Turvey card for the blue circles and the die-cut sentiment; the inner circle of each is then embossed with an Embossilicious script embossing folder. As is often the case, I have also used a mixture of distress inks, a ‘sand-it’ tool and some gilding wax to highlight and enhance both the edges of the circles and the embossed detail.
The stamp featured here is from Crafter’s Companion (I think its called ‘time to relax’) and coloured with spectrum noir alcohol pens; I have then finished off with blue gems and pva dots. The blue gems are actually only there at all because when I stamped the sentiment onto the topper it picked up an ink line underneath which I have now hidden with the gems 😉
