Well I had to tidy properly from last time and what better way than using up the spare bits 🙂
Size 8″ * 8″
Having received my new HunkyDory dies just had to try at least one of them out. It is a shaker card using the new die and some HD snowfall acetate. The addition of a green background and wide xmas ribbon. The sentiment die is also HD, and finally you may recognise THAT die again.
Size 7″ * 5″
Base card has been silver embossed (still magic to watch). Unclear in photo but image is decoupaged with a snowfall acetate dome added.
Size 7″ * 5″
The embossed card was intended to be the base of the previous card but decided I liked it too much to cover so just added a snowflake corner.
Size 8″ * 8″
Left over HD card from last years makes. Added an embossed image, sanded back and silver gilding wax added, mounted on HD rainbow mirri.
Size 7″ * 5″
And to finish the tag is the last bit of of the HD used last week, the image is from the little book just simply matted onto a gold mirri mat on a red card base.
Crafting area is nearly tidy(ish) so might need to do some more today.
Foot Note: I have HunkyDory mats in Rainbow and Gold Little Book size and also Rainbow in 8′ * 8″ and find them invaluable. Depending on what I am adding I often take die cuts out of the centre. The last card I didn’t as I was adding a paper weight topper.
These are a challenge I tend to set myself of choosing 1/2 set of Hunky Dory toppers and see where it takes me.
Set of four toppers mounted onto a silver circle (die cut) which was fairly easy to match up to image, Matted onto a pale pink miri, a flecked black and a mat silver. ( Centres have been removed from black and mat silver and will re-appear later.) A circular sentiment also matted onto silver and black.
DL Card base. A set of three toppers simply mounted on foam pads on an embossed silver mat. A small strip of hunkydory just to tie them together.
Base card created out of some dark grey card. Those centres from first card squared and corners knotched with a cream layer. The outer of Hunkydory topper has been mounted on rainbow miri with some patterned acetate sandwiched between., circular inner has been mounted flat and outer on foam pads. Card edged with pebeo silver gilding wax, and corner embellishments are silver tonic nuvo drops.
The tidying up leftover card …………. Couldn’t get this one to photo well. DL Card base. A piece of left over cardstock, two sentiments and a topper. Finished off with docrafts silver pearl drops.
This is a quick and easy card, but very effective. Please note the picture is slightly brighter than the original as I had to use the flash on my camera to take a halfway decent image.
Sheena Stamping Card
Twinkling lights embossing folder
Twinkling lights Die
Ranger Glossy Accents
Spectrum Noir pens
1.) Run your Sheena stamping card through your embossing machine. I had already cut my card to size because I already knew what I wanted to do with it, however if you want to play it safe, use a bigger piece of card so that you can line it up to the hinge edge of the folder and then cut is to the required size.
2.) Do a blanket ‘wash’ of background colour. I have use Antique linen and applied it using a soft brush, this is just to take away the stark whiteness of the card to give it a more rosy glow.
3) Using your dry wet-wipe, apply circular areas of colour to each of the lights. Remember to dab off the excess before applying to you card; for each one I started on the light itself as this was where the colour needed to be strongest and then moved outwards to where I wanted the lighter glow. The colours I used, were: Candied Apple; Lucky Clover; Pumpkin and Chipped Sapphire. Bear in mind that to keep the colours separate you will need to change which bit of the wet-wipe you are using when you change colour!
4) Ink up the light strings. There are lots of different ways to do this, however I chose to highlight the stings a little with Hickory Smoke distress ink. I have also kept in uneven rather than a flat colour to indicate light and shade. I haven’t done anything extra with the mini-lights although one could use gilding wax or foil to make them shine.
5) Warm up the edges. I have used Honey and Black Soot distress inks just to go around the edges to warm them up and draw attention to the centre of the image.
6) Apply Ranger Glossy Accents to each of the lights which will give them an authentic plasticky texture – leave this to dry!!
This card was inspired by one of Sheena’s design team samples on hochanda when these embossing folders were released
7) Die-cut your twinkling lights die. The colour it, I have used my SN markers as the idea was for the die cut to be a stronger set of colours than the background. I have also then applied the Glossy accents to these lights as well.
SN Colours: DR2,7; CT1,OR2; GT1,3; JG6,2
8) Stamp and heat emboss your sentiment. I have used gold embossing powder, again for warmth, and then distressed the edges of the tag die-cut and layered it against black.
I have used a black card base which reduced the number of layers needed to create the same effect as a white card layered with black; looking at my picture, the white outline is actually the envelope and not part of the card 😉
9) Stick it all together!
I hope you have enjoyed this tutorial, remember, even if you do not have the same items that I have used, the technique can be carried across to a variety of projects!
When I started crafting yesterday there was no August Challenge so I continued with Xmas (which I would point out Phantomsax knew) so here are my final Xmas for July Challenge even though a draw has already been declared.
Well technically three all with same base. From some hammered white card I have DIE CUT 3 mini-stepper cards (die by Tattered Lace)
Left to right, 1) a gold layer cut and then stamped and coloured a candle image. Fussy cut then affixed to card 2) gold and white layers finished off with DIE CUT snowflakes. The 2 smaller are cut from gold, the larger one cut from white and gold wink of stella added 3) no layers just a Tonic DIE CUT candle, coloured and paper pieced.
(posted in wrong order as matt on this card is what was gutted from card3)
As I have done before I got out a Hunky-dory Xmas set.
6″ * 6″ card base. Bottom gold mirri base layer (gutted to make the most use of ) Main image is part of a HD card to which I have added a HD border strip and HD greeting. Finished off with Red Berry Nuvo drops, red bow ( made on a bow maker) and glitter dots.
7″ * 7″ card base. again started with a gold mirri layer with a red second layer.Using a HD topper that has two frames created main image – smaller frame glues flat, central image is on foam pads, outer frame has had snowfall acetate added ad then fixed on double foam pads. Bottom is a strip of gold mirri embossed topped with red and some HD border.
7″ * 7″ base card (again) Base layer is gold shimmer card layered with a part of an HD matching insert. Topper image is on foam pads and a domed snowfall acetate has been added to the frame. Greeting has been matted onto DIE CUT gold shimmer and gold mirri card (Tattered Lace tattered circle dies) also added some glitter to snowy areas.
DL card base. Base layer is cut from HD base card edged with gold gilding wax. The robins are the top strip from the card used in card 2, matted onto gold mirri. Bottom is a DIE CUTbow ( not forced into a bow) from insert top border (card 4) on the right is a HD sentiment and on left another piece of the insert matted onto gold mirri (Tattered Lace die again)
DL Card Base. Gold shimmer card with gold mirri card forming base. Thee small topper mounted on foam pads linked with robin border. Finished off with more of the ribbon border. ( I may have to re-look at this one as the mirri is taking over, probably will add some DIE CUTS)
Quick card completed again on the way to bed – A5 base card. HD insert cut in half. One half on front rest actually used as the insert inside. Topper is from the Kanban little book with a piece of HD card added to the bottom. Matted onto black card that has been edged with gold glitter. Fixed using pinflair glue gel to even up the different thickness of Kanban and HD.
July is nearly done so these will probably be my last for the challenge.
Only 6 in this photo ’cause I missed one 🙂
I decided to make use of a Create & Craft Members Gift which was a little book by Kanban. Both large image and small topper are from the book. Both have been matted onto gold mire (the smaller being taken out of centre of larger) Added black and gold layered snowflakes and Berry Red Nuvo drops all on an inherited red card.
From same pad, and same red card stock. Base matted onto rainbow mirri, topper onto black sparkle card, these two layers have been cut using Tattered Lace dies.
You will be getting the idea by now, these were mostly all made in a quick 2 hour craftathon. In this case the bottom layers are rainbow mirri card.
6″*6″ Base white card. Several layers cut either straight or again the Tattered Lace ‘tattered edge’ dies. The layers are Black , rainbow mirri, adorable red card, a sheet from the Kanban pad and finished with a simple greeting ( also from Kanban pad)
Back to Hunky-dory for this DL card (created on my way to bed one night…….. only went in to put something away) A left over piece of Xmas HD and topper. Base layered onto black. Topper layered onto some blue adorable scorable. The church ( crafters companion die) and sentiment also cut fro the blue , glitter and Nuvo drops added.
7″*7″ white base card. Embossed with a Spellbinder Mbossabilities folder, with silver gilding wax added. Black sparkle card from which layer used in card 2 has been cut. An off cut of rainbow mirri, to which final HD topper from set I was using has been added, domed over top with an off cut of HD snowfall acetate. Some dots of glitter added.
And finally card 7 that tried to escape.
Base card is green, embossed with same folder and this time gold gilding wax added. Bottom image matted onto black, and topper matted onto gold.
So in total I used 7 sheets from Kanban pad, and I have 6 sentiment toppers remaining from them. A couple of HD mirri mats. All the other mats were from my offcuts box. The final bits of the HD Xmas set I previously used and finished off with glitter and Nuvo drops etc.
This has been made from previous three cards leftovers. The snowfall acetate cover is making it a bit unclear, sorry.
A5 card base of a gold shimmer card. On the left the last offcuts from a HD card stock. The Gold swirl is a flourish I have had for a long time and has become a bit of a go to but I do not remember who it was made by. The poinsettias are die cuts from the HD topper sheet. A Tonic rococo candle cut from gold, with red card inserted and added gold glitter. Poinsettia stamp down right edge in both holographic and copper embossing powder. HD sentiment added and all poinsettias finished with a nuvo drop in centres.
8″ * 8″ card base. Blue HD adorable scorable with snowflakes stamped and glittered for background card. A HD Xmas scene cut to fit and backed with a black glitter edged card. Not clear in photo but have also added dots and lines of glitter using a quickie glue pen and fine glitter.
A5 Card created again with my gold shimmer cardstock. Remaining part of previously used HD card. The original card had a border along top which I removed for first card. This has then been used top and bottom of this card. Small sentiment topper added with the same image on, I have used pin flair to raise it from card.
8″ * 8″ card base. The bottom matt is a fine glitter black card. Followed with a part of a matching HD insert edged using tape and glitter on edge. Then added various HD toppers that pick out parts of base image. And also a sentiment. Because I gut matts when I can and main layer is only a heavy paper I have put a small offcut piece under the centre to make sure it doesn’t sag.
And finally today a DL card. DL made from some hammered card with gilding wax and embossed snowflakes added. Another HD topper backed on some more of the black card. Seasons Greetings sentiment added and some silver nuvo drops to finish it off.
Football based (obviously) Mixed layering of two matching prints all on a black matt. Blue raffetta diagonals, did make a bow but decided against using. A small topper created by isolating an imaging and putting on a black matt. Gold candy in outer corners and Tonic Nuvo drops on topper.(6″ * 6″)
Paper came out of a pad that doesn’t let go cleanly so was left with torn edge offcuts, decided to make use of them to create a second card. matted onto a white and black layer. Created a couple of rosettes from the offcuts as embellishments.( 6″ * 6″ )
New die need to be tested 🙂 Simple border frame, black base layer, tree die cut, bow in black and same paper used for frame, Tonic ‘Someone Special’ die cut. ( 7″ * 7″ )
Bit more artistry for this one. Using the same green paper though. Black matt with corners rounded. Green matt also with rounded corners. Foliage die cuts cut in a lighter green and highlighted on edge with gilding wax, hot glued for speed in a diagonal cascade. Foliage in left corner is gilding wax through stencil created by cutting the die cuts. Tattered Lace Happy Birthday.( 7″ * 7″ )
And finally an 8″ * 8″ card. Layers from bottom up = Plain black, black embossed and treated with silver and gold gilding wax, white hammered card, patterned paper, black card and finally a Hunky-dory Little Book image. Finished off with gold candi ( faux brads if you have never seen before.
