Tag Archives: Die-cutting

Another of those days …………

Well I had to tidy properly from last time and what better way than using up the spare bits 🙂

IMG_1517  Size 8″ *  8″

Having received my new HunkyDory dies just had to try at least one of them out. It is a shaker card using the new die and some HD snowfall acetate. The addition of a green background and wide xmas ribbon. The sentiment die is also HD, and finally you may recognise THAT die again.

Base card has been silver embossed (still magic to watch). Unclear in photo but image is decoupaged with a snowfall acetate dome added.

The embossed card was intended to be the base of the previous card but decided I liked it too much to cover so just added a snowflake corner.

Left over HD card from last years makes. Added an embossed image, sanded back and silver gilding wax added, mounted on HD rainbow mirri.

And to finish the tag is the last bit of of the HD used last week, the image is from the little book just simply matted onto a gold mirri mat on a red card base.

Crafting area is nearly tidy(ish) so might need to do some more today.

Foot Note: I have HunkyDory mats in Rainbow and Gold Little Book size and also Rainbow in 8′ * 8″ and find them invaluable. Depending on what I am adding I often take die cuts out of the centre. The last card I didn’t as I was adding a paper weight topper.

No Christmas today ……… oh Damn

I was not going to Xmas craft today other than to possibly put inserts in and where needed make envelopes, but as they say ‘all good plans’……….

I unwrapped a pack of stencils and the swirly mat was the packaging, couldn’t resist crafting with it. It is a Hunkydory little book image with the top & bottom borders removed (they appear later) My current favourite die cut. The berries are tonic nuvo drops that I made on my glass mat and once set transferred to card.

Hand fussy cut decoupage that I found in the Xmas box, that die again 🙂 . A couple of HD tags and just a simple gold mat.

As simple as it gets. The slightly brown on the bottom has been removed and replaced with filler and sparkles.(The glue although it appeared ‘clean’ obviously had some brown from pin in it, will use a different glue next time)

And finally those two borders added to a gold mat. Backed with some mottled dark red paper and topped with a left over HD topper all from the Xmas scraps box. It needs something else but cannot decide what.

I have also done what I set out to do and all Xmas cards now have inserts and envelopes

Challenge Day Two

Another day at home so created some more.

Card 1

Hunky-dory Little book image, a total of four layers. I have used the diamond shaped torn edge and created an inverted decoupage. Acetate with a sentiment embossed wrap and mounted on an easel card. The base backing paper is a paper from Kanban, flowers created from the waste and one of my favourite swirl dies. on the stopper.

Card 2

Standard decoupage created with the cut-outs from card 1, so in total I have used 5 of the matching little book pages.. Simply mounted on gold layers cut using rectangular torn edge dies.

Card 3

Torn edge Hexagon card (sorry not photographed well due to the amount of shiney ) Hexagon layers with heart torn edge topper made from yet another little book page. Flowers swirls and banner made from various off cut bits on my desk from last two days of crafting.

Will go back and tidy tomorrow as I am hungry and in need of coffee.

Challenge Accepted

I forgot there was a challenge so spent yesterday doing other stuff and started today completing inserts gets. Then I remembered …………………..

Card 1

Still using up scraps for base layers and not sure how clear the twisted decoupage is. All decoupage layers cut with torn edge dies. I have also layered a couple of the small flowers, added Tonic nuvo drops to centres, a bow and a sentiment.

Card 2

Torn edges more obvious on this one, image is from a hunkydory insert the rest having been used as an actual insert on a different card. Backing paper is another hd insert with other half used as the cards insert.

Card 3

Silver base and hd frame both from scraps box. Image is from the Mens hd little book. Base layer cut with torn edge die, edged with black glitter. I have then decoupaged the two balloons (hd little books are a dream to cut ) one layer on small one and two on larger one. The compass I have cut with a small torn edge die, edged with black pen and then cut the points separately and fixed on a small foam pad. I have also used pin flair clear glaze on small balloon and compass points.

Tomorrow I may even do a couple with the newer torn edge edge dies which I believe is technically the challenge 🙂

Another Holiday

Don’t you just love the end of the holiday year when you just have to take the holiday time you have not managed to take 🙂 So here I am on my last holidays bits.

I have tidied again, re-arranged again and crafted again.

Firstly let me share my latest storage solution. I am sure I am not the only one who has alphabet dies that come as a ‘block’ so you end up with various letters you didn’t need , quite apart from the ones that we cut then don’t use. I have stored these various ways but have now gone with this………

A pill box. It is one of those that has the week and 4 compartments per day i.e. 28 compartments. This particular one cost £1.49 and each day comes out seperately. I have created a box from odd coloured card stock just to keep it controlled as the separate trays are for obvious reasons fairly loose, printed some letters and sorted. Last 2 compartments have numbers and punctuations.

I have then gone for the ‘stuff’ found when tidying desk and scrap boxes.

Card 1

7*5 – I had to make a New Job card and these were bits I got out but didn’t use. I decided on an easel card as I do quite like them and wanted to try the ‘opposite’ way of folding the card. I think I prefer this way as it seems more stable. Brown hunkydory base mat, black mat, gold mirri mat + hunkydory little book image. I have added peel-offs to the sides of topper. (A bit old school I know but I find them useful). Stopper is some more of the brown  hd, black mat and an off-cut from a card I made 2 years ago :). Have added some images cut from a paper off-cut (as it happens also from a 2 year old make)

Card 2

A5 – White hammered card base, edged with pebeo silver gilding wax. Base mat layer is an hd paper off-cut. black and silver mirri mats. Topper is from hd little book which I have created decoupage, three layers on the flowers and just the one for the saying.I have added pin flair craft glaze to the vase and some nuvo drops to the flower centres.

Card 3

6*6 – Gold mirri base mat, an insert off-cut and a pink hd off-cut with some gold tape over the join (in this photo you can see the shadow of the join but not in real life) A couple of die cuts (all in off-cut box) and gold nuvo drops.

Card 4

6*6 – The things I find in my scrap box !!! Die cut layered onto green hd. The flowers and butterflies are all from an ‘sticker’ sheet that I have no idea where it came from. It is quite ‘posh’ as it is embossed and everything. Only new thing added are the candi corners.

Card 5

6*6 – The red base appears to have originally been cut to go with the green die-cut on previous card ( yes I don’t know either) Rosette and banners were me playing, along with the ‘Thank You’. The mat gold layer was also in the scrap box now cut to size and die cut with a tonic layering die..

I’d like to say that scraps box was looking emptier but I would be lying, however desk is clear.

The Scrap Box(es)

The plan for the last two days has been to go through my ‘scrap’ boxes and die cut embellishments and actually throw bits away.

img_1362 As you can see I did do some die cutting, about 2 hours worth …………….. but the problem with going through the scrap box is you find things to craft with.

Distraction 1

Small part of a Little Book page + purple strip of card + black scrap + silver scrap + cut out butterfly + scrap printed acetate, even the card base was in the scrap box. The only new additions are the silver ribbon strips , purple bow and sparkles. Oh and I die cut the sentiment from scraps.

Distraction 2

Why I have card blanks in the scrap box I don’t know but a simple one as the topper was already decoupaged so added a gold mat, 3 stars and some nuvo drops.

Distraction 3

My first ever pop-up box. White card was an off-cut scored and cut to size. All matts are from the scrap box as are the frogs, flowers and sentiment ( and the acetate strips) The only new addition are the nuvo drops.

Distraction 4

Yet another card off-cut folded. Cream paper cut to size with a peel-off border added. The Hunky-Dory topper backed with a gold mat. The two decorative strips cut from an off-cut.

You would think this would mean my scrap boxes would look a bit empty now but to be honest they do not look as if I have touched them.

Black and Gold

Embossed Christmas

This is a really simple card which I wanted to talk about because I used some new stuff…

Tool Kit:

  • Sheena Stamping Card
  • Black Card
  • Versamark Ink
  • Gold embossing powder
  • Docrafts Christmas Postage stamp
  • Creative Expressions frame stamp
  • X2 Snowflake dies
  • Corner punch
  • Ultimate Pro
  • Distress Inks
  • Ribbon
  • 3D Glitter gel

Step by Step…

  1. Stamp and heat emboss both images, using the Versamark ink and the gold embossing powder
  2. Cut your card to size
  3. Add embossed line frame around the edge if required
  4. Punch out the corners
  5. Distress the whole piece of card in your lightest colour
  6. Use your medium colour to shadow all around the outside edge and then also on the inside edge (the side closest to the middle) of the stamped and embossed frame
  7. Use your darkest colour to also go around the edges of the card and then directly over the whole of the stamped frame, darken more at the four corners of the frame – The embossed lines will repel the distress ink, so just swipe straight over it 😉
  8. Attach optional ribbon
  9. Die cut your snowflakes, I have continued to use black card for this.
  10. Dab the front of your diecuts onto the Versamark ink pad; I chose to do the whole of the smaller snowflake and the outside edges of the larger snowflake
  11. Heat emboss the diecuts with the gold embossing powder
  12. Stick it all to your card base
  13. Where wanted, add drops of 3D glitter gel
  14. Leave to dry, then add an insert

Both of the stamps I have used here are new as is the glitter gel which I found in a shop yesterday and thought “oo… you look interesting…” I have used various stickles at various times but a lot of the glitter glues dry flat. The application was easy and the control was good, the gel is also full of glitter rather than merely flecked with glitter so I am really pleased with the purchase and may have to buy some more as they come in a variety of colours…
