Xmas Crafting 2017

If you have been paying attention this is not the first 2017 Xmas Crafting but heyho.

Starting with 4 quick cards. Image created in Serif (was actually printing inserts but also had a little play) All four images printed on one A4 MQC stock and cut to size so that matt layer is also only one A4 sheet of hd card stock. Not clear in photo but I have treated them all slightly differently in terms of where I have added glitter.

8″ * 8″  –  This one started with an image from HD Xmas little book. It is a nice image but not my style so I challenge myself to use. I cut out the centre image leaving a frame that I have added to an acetate ‘box’. Under I have added a die cut halo and put over the base images, decoupage the inward image from the previously cut out frame ( hope this makes sense). The die cut frames are part of the HD Moonstone range, these particular ones are designed to go with the Little books. The Merry Xmas die is from tonic , part of their bottle wrap inserts.

6″ * 6″ – I also had the topper set etc of the same image so carried on with my challenge to myself. This one is simply using the cut off of the blue HD used on previous card, a linen gold mat plus the topper.

(photo not good, sorry) 7″ * 5″  –   Made a bit more effort on this one. Circular topper with a tonic circular die added. The second topper has been created using a different tonic die set. The patterned matt layer is the one deigned by HD to go with this topper set. Gold base, which had the circular topper cut out of it, and the two flashes are some gold glitter wash tape.

Both DL –  1st one is the image from HD card stock (the remaining piece is blue with stars and therefore can easily be used separate from this image ). Added a strip of the gold wash tape and a sentiment. 2nd one is a topper matted onto black. The strip is an offcuts mounted onto a dark purple offcut finished of with a sentiment.

That used up all the images ……

8″ * 8′ Kraft card – There was a piece of card stock left over. I have put gilding wax on edge of card. Black base matt with the card on top. A different image from the Little Book matted onto a HD mirri matt. Gold ribbon with bow plus Xmas sentiment.

In between I also got carried away and sorted my off cuts into colour groups, and threw many bits away as even I do not know why I kept white copy paper off cuts. They are now in poly pockets stored with card stock in the same colour groups. The theory is that I will use up the bits before getting annoyed looking through bits box and just cutting up a new piece of card.

More Stamping! or possibly more Christmas…

Carrying on the challenge, I have three new entries which are also all going into my Christmas stash!

So this one is using a Phil Martin stamp which is the phone and the text message icons; I’ve then added in some christmassy stuff to make it a little more seasonal. The ‘Noel’ is from an Indigo Blu set which I got right at the beginning of my crafty habit and is still one of my favourite sets.

This happy little penguin is from Whimsy Stamps; on this one I have coloured it with pencils but I may well do several of him in different mediums because he is so cute…

And Finally, this is one where I had no idea at all where I was going with it until I did; the snowflakes are a Honey Doo Stamp set from last year which I have heat embossed with a Wow! diamond sparkles. This is the first time out for this embossing powder and I have to say I am impressed! As is often the case, the photo does not due justice to the level of sparkle on this card and having also used Papermania’s Snowflake embossing powder my experience is that this one gives better image coverage with a more even sparkle – however this may just be luck of the draw. I have used distress inks to give the snowflakes some definition, however I then felt that the bottom left corner was looking a bit empty so I added this cute little stamp. I had a horrible moment after stamping when I realised that I had stamped in versafine instead of momento; the card I used here would not work well with watercolours so I decided to use my alcohol markers as planned and hope for the best. I think I have gotten away with it… (hurrah). I have also extended the ground line of the stamp out to the edge of the card so that the image wasn’t floating so much. The ‘Merry Christmas’ is from the same set as the ‘Noel’.

I hope you all like my fun stuff, I certainly enjoyed making it 🙂 – Keep it Crafty!

Challenge Day Two

Another day at home so created some more.

Card 1

Hunky-dory Little book image, a total of four layers. I have used the diamond shaped torn edge and created an inverted decoupage. Acetate with a sentiment embossed wrap and mounted on an easel card. The base backing paper is a paper from Kanban, flowers created from the waste and one of my favourite swirl dies. on the stopper.

Card 2

Standard decoupage created with the cut-outs from card 1, so in total I have used 5 of the matching little book pages.. Simply mounted on gold layers cut using rectangular torn edge dies.

Card 3

Torn edge Hexagon card (sorry not photographed well due to the amount of shiney ) Hexagon layers with heart torn edge topper made from yet another little book page. Flowers swirls and banner made from various off cut bits on my desk from last two days of crafting.

Will go back and tidy tomorrow as I am hungry and in need of coffee.

Challenge Accepted

I forgot there was a challenge so spent yesterday doing other stuff and started today completing inserts gets. Then I remembered …………………..

Card 1

Still using up scraps for base layers and not sure how clear the twisted decoupage is. All decoupage layers cut with torn edge dies. I have also layered a couple of the small flowers, added Tonic nuvo drops to centres, a bow and a sentiment.

Card 2

Torn edges more obvious on this one, image is from a hunkydory insert the rest having been used as an actual insert on a different card. Backing paper is another hd insert with other half used as the cards insert.

Card 3

Silver base and hd frame both from scraps box. Image is from the Mens hd little book. Base layer cut with torn edge die, edged with black glitter. I have then decoupaged the two balloons (hd little books are a dream to cut ) one layer on small one and two on larger one. The compass I have cut with a small torn edge die, edged with black pen and then cut the points separately and fixed on a small foam pad. I have also used pin flair clear glaze on small balloon and compass points.

Tomorrow I may even do a couple with the newer torn edge edge dies which I believe is technically the challenge 🙂

First Entry

This is my first use of the torn edge dies from tattered lace which is this month’s challenge

I have used the hexagon set; three different ‘For the love of stamps’ sets (Hunkydory) my usual copious supply of distress inks and my Spectrum Noir pens.

The Butterfly is also tattered lace and the embossing folder is from Crafters Companion.

Being a Rebel

When I started crafting yesterday there was no August Challenge so I continued with Xmas (which I would point out Phantomsax knew) so here are my final Xmas for July Challenge even though a draw has already been declared.

Card 1

Well technically three all with same base. From some hammered white card I have DIE CUT 3 mini-stepper cards (die by Tattered Lace)

Left to right, 1) a gold layer cut and then stamped and coloured a candle image. Fussy cut then affixed to card 2) gold and white layers finished off with DIE CUT snowflakes. The 2 smaller are cut from gold, the larger one cut from white and gold wink of stella added 3) no layers just a Tonic DIE CUT candle, coloured and paper pieced.

Card 2

(posted in wrong order as matt on this card is what was gutted from card3)

As I have done before I got out a Hunky-dory Xmas set.

6″ * 6″ card base. Bottom gold mirri base layer (gutted to make the most use of ) Main image is part of a HD card to which I have added a HD border strip and HD greeting. Finished off with Red Berry Nuvo drops, red bow ( made on a bow maker) and glitter dots.

Card 3

7″ * 7″ card base. again started with a gold mirri layer with a red second layer.Using a HD topper that has two frames created main image – smaller frame glues flat, central image is on foam pads, outer frame has had snowfall acetate added ad then fixed on double foam pads. Bottom is a strip of gold mirri embossed topped with red and some HD border.

Card 4

7″ * 7″ base card (again) Base layer is gold shimmer card layered with a part of an HD matching insert. Topper image is on foam pads and a domed snowfall acetate has been added to the frame. Greeting has been matted onto DIE CUT gold shimmer and gold mirri card (Tattered Lace tattered circle dies) also added some glitter to snowy areas.

Card 5

DL card base. Base layer is cut from HD base card edged with gold gilding wax. The robins are the top strip from the card used in card 2, matted onto gold mirri. Bottom is a DIE CUT bow ( not forced into a bow) from insert top border (card 4) on the right is a HD sentiment and on left another piece of the insert matted onto gold mirri (Tattered Lace die again)

Card 6

DL Card Base. Gold shimmer card with gold mirri card forming base. Thee small topper mounted on foam pads linked with robin border. Finished off with more of the ribbon border. ( I may have to re-look at this one as the mirri is taking over, probably will add some DIE CUTS)

Card 7

Quick card completed again on the way to bed – A5 base card. HD insert cut in half. One half on front rest actually used as the insert inside. Topper is from the Kanban little book with a piece of HD card added to the bottom. Matted onto black card that has been edged with gold glitter. Fixed using pinflair glue gel to even up the different thickness of Kanban and HD.

With our challenge for this month in mind, I am starting us off with a card created and inspired by (mostly) the Crafters Companion autumnal goodies that came with issue 11 of the Crafters Companion magazine.

  • Stamps and dies from isue 11
  • Copper embossing powder
  • Script stamp fom Sarah’s Signature collection
  • Mini leaf die (Marianne Design Craftables Cutting Die – Punch Die Autumn Leaves CR1336)
  • Kraft Card
  • Light Card
  • Distress Inks: Peeled Paint; Candied Apple; Barn Door; Vintage Photo and Ground Exresso
  • Gilding Wax
  • Finished size, 5×7

I used two different ideas from the magazine and put them together together20160803_212437.jpg

layering the two sizes of plain white card together I have stamped the script background across both pieces at the same time. I have then done the same with the leaf stamp, however I have then heat-embossed the leaves.

Using the larger leaf die I have cut various leaf apertures into the two levels of card and then used a mixture of distress inks and the renaissance gold gilding wax to add depth and definition. Both pieces of light card are then matted onto kraft card which has also been distress-inked to darken the edges.

I have then created the tag and added it along with the various die-cut leaves. The two leaves in the centre are from the crafters companion set, one of them is cut from kraft card and the other is an aperture (in case this isn’t clear on the photo) which is why the stalks are in opposite directions. If I were to do this one again, I would want to avoid having the two bottom edge cut-outs in-line with each other.

I am also happy to report that I have finally found my anti-static back (lost for several months) which I finally found hiding exactly where it belonged inside a zipped pocket on my tote bag that I had forgotten about…
