What is an embellishment?
An embellishment is something that one adds to a card/gift box in addition to the main feature of the piece to make it look pretty. As there are various different types of embellishment and obviously some are cheaper to use than others, the type and number of embellishments will affect the price of any card.
Examples of embellishments:
- Pva glue (dots and lines)
- Glitter glue (dots and lines)
- Custom shapes (e.g. reindeer)
- Paper Beads
In terms of pricing, the basic level of an embellishment will not change, however it is worth noting that a level 1 embellishment on a 4×4″ card is not the same in terms of quantity as on an 8×8″ card; the price difference in terms of quantity is absorbed by the higher banding of the larger card.
For example the pva dots are a level one embellishment; on a 4×4″ card there is only so much room in which to add any dots, so most of the time 10 is going to be the maximum number of dots on that size card. On an 8×8″ card the dots are still a level one, but there may well be more of them (depending on the design) because there is a larger surface area to start with.
